Queer theory professor killed in cycle accident

A professor in Spanish and queer theory has been named as the cyclist who was killed in a collision in London earlier this month.

David Vilaseca, who was professor of Hispanic Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London, was killed when he collided with a lorry on 9.30am on Tuesday February 9th.

The 46-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene at the corner of Tower Bridge Road and Druid Street, around 100 metres from his home.

A message on his university web page said: “It is with the very greatest sadness that we report the tragic death of Professor David Vilaseca in a road traffic accident on Tuesday February 9th 2010.

“The thoughts of the whole school are with his family, friends, colleagues and students at this most difficult of times.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and anyone with information is asked to call 020 8285 1574.
