Elton John has said that Jesus was a “super-intelligent” gay man

In a magazine interview, in which he also discussed his former drug addiction, the singer spoke his mind about the son of God.

He told Parade: “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.

“On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East – you’re as good as dead.”

His remarks have already riled one evangelical minister.

Ian Watson, who led a campaign against gay clergymen in Scotland, told the Daily Record: “There is absolutely no truth whatsoever in what Elton John has said about Jesus being gay.

“Jesus was a Jew and Jewish law regards homosexual practices as a sin. When Jesus challenged his enemies to prove him guilty of sin, they couldn’t do it. Therefore, I have no doubt whatsoever that he was not a gay man.”

Elton also spoke about his bad luck in love before he met his civil partner David Furnish.

He said: “I’d always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I’d take them around the world, try to educate them. One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car. They didn’t have jobs. They were reliant on me.

“I did this repeatedly. In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I’d taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn’t intended to.”

But he also spoke about his instant connection to Furnish, adding that the pair had sent a card to each other every Saturday for 16 years to show their love.
