Glee actress Jane Lynch has revealed she didn’t come out to her parents until her early thirties because she didn’t want to be gay.

The 49-year-old, who plays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in the show, told the Sunday Mirror: “I didn’t want to be gay. I wanted to be, I wanted an easy life. And you know what? I am gay and I still have an easy life.”

Lynch is thought to be planning to marry her finance Dr Lara Embry in May. She said that playing the almost sociopathic role of Sue Sylvester probably helps her relationship.

“When I put on that tracksuit I have a licence to say anything I want,” she said. “I think it’s probably very good therapy, because I’m a much nicer person at home as I get it all out at work.”

“That kind of contemptuous behaviour is just below the surface for me, so it’s nice I don’t have to dig deep for it.”
