A trans man in California has revealed he is expecting a baby next month.

Scott Moore, 30, is thought to be the third trans man to go public with his pregnancy.

American Thomas Beatie gave birth to his first child in June 2008, and had a daughter last June, while a Spanish trans man announced his pregnancy with twin boys last year, although he later revealed he had miscarried.

Scott and his husband Thomas have two other children they have adopted from Thomas’ previous relationship with a woman, who is now dead.

They were both born female. While Thomas has had full gender reassignment surgery, Scott could not afford lower surgery, meaning he has kept his female reproductive organs.

The couple met at a support group for trans men in 2005. They began a relationship in 2007 and decided to try for a baby a year later. The baby, to be named Miles, was conceived through artificial insemination using a friend’s sperm.

The couple are legally married as Scott still has a female birth certificate.

Their two boys, Gregg, 12, and Logan, 10, have been able to cope with bullying over their family set-up, Thomas said.

He said: “We’ve been through it already. My son Logan was bullied but now he just says to teasers: ‘You may have a problem with my two dads but I don’t so you’re not hurting me’.”

The couple also revealed they had struggled to find doctors and and midwives to look after Scott during his pregnancy.

He said: “No pregnant person should be denied healthcare just because they are a man.” But he added he was looking forward to the birth.

Thomas said: “We want to show the world that trans-families can be healthy, loving and nurturing.”

The first trans man to announce his pregnancy, Thomas Beatie, now has two children with his wife Nancy.
