Robert: God forbid the rich kids are going to win the next British election and then we can say good bye to any hint of gay marriage for at least 5 years. After the election, loads and loads of gays, and straight supportive, in the UK should organise a date to descend on parliament and demand gay marriage.

And we’ve got chant at least once “We paid for your hats, we paid for your ha-aaats, what a waste of council tax, we paid for your hats!”

Cindy kept her mouth shut when it really mattered: when her husband was backing Prop 8 at the time of the actual election. She should be explaining her lack of support then rather then sitting for glamorous photo opps…

When I read the headline about Mrs. McCain, I thought it was just a farce. Proud of the ladies indeed. Of course, like Thomas said above, Obama is a disappointment so far, but I am not surprise. He was indeed a sweet rhetorical charmer and shallow people praised him before he could do the job. USA Human Rights status is a shame compared that she should be leading by example. Pity that someone would think of comparing Obama to Gordon Brown on this type of matter. Apart from marriage, LGBT UK is on a more better freedom than US which is nearly comparable to Uganda instead.

I agree with the above comment about Obama being a huge let down up till now. He promised so much but has delivered so little. I really think it will cost the Dems heavily.

I applaud these ladies. I hope their help is used effectively. LGBT issues should NOT be a party-political matter. They too often are, and it is highly mischievous – bigotry and opposing equality then get the extra boost of being seen as ‘party loyalty’.

Robert, things in the UK are far superior to anything in the US right now as you and I (both residents of the US I presume) know. President Obama has been beyond a disappointment to the gay community and progressives as a whole. Gays are still getting booted out of the military and their civil rights voted on by the masses. And what does Obama do or say? NOTHING. The Prrsident and the Democratics are likely to lose control of Senate this year. Things could and should have been done. They’re too busy to focus on gay issues, right? Not too busy for him to go to Massachuesetts to campaign for the losing candidate or to IOCC headquarters for Chicago… But too busy to campaign or utter a single word this past fall in Maine when gay civil rights were being removed by popular vote. And too busy to sign an Executive Order stopping the dismissal of gay Americans serving the nationin the military. Forgive my rant as it has nothing to do you or your post. Just saddened and sickened about America and it’s “fierce” advocate for gays: President Obama (aka no he won’t!). I’m done
