Malawi gay couple ‘beaten in prison’
7:20 PM — A gay couple in Malawi who were jailed for holding a wedding ceremony have said they are being beaten in prison. Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza were denied bail and will face trial next week for indecency charges.

6:27 PM — A gay man whose mother died from cancer is calling for a change in the law after he was prevented from donating blood to help her. Dij Bentley's mother Christine, 47, died from acute myeloid leukaemia in August last year.

4:07 PM — US President Barack Obama has appointed a trans woman to the role of senior technical advisor to the Department of Commerce. Amanda Simpson is on the board of directors of the National Centre for Transgender Equality and has worked in the aerospace and defence industry for 30 years.

12:27 PM — A US woman who was ordered to hand over custody of her child to her lesbian ex-partner could be charged with parental abduction for failing to comply with a court order.
US HIV travel ban lifted today 19
11:28 AM — The ban on HIV-positive people entering the US officially ends today. The 22-year-old law was one of the most restrictive immigration policies in the world for people with HIV but was lifted by President Barack Obama in November.

11:10 AM — Lady Gaga was reportedly forced to confront a homophobic man at one of her gigs. The gay-friendly singer had performed in an Ottawa club and was dancing with friends when a man approached her to hurl homophobic abuse at her and fellow star Adam Lambert.
