1:09 PM — Westlife singer Mark Feehily has paid tribute to Stephen Gately for helping him find the courage to come out. Gately, who died in October, came out in 1999 during his time with Boyzone. He was the first boyband member to announce he was gay.

Father accused of forcing ‘gay’ son to have sex with a prostitute
4:59 PM — A father is standing trial in Queensland, Australia, for allegedly forcing his 14-year-old son to sleep with a prostitute because he thought the boy was gay. According to the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin, the alleged incident happened in 2007 at a family barbecue.
Eminem drops anti-gay lyrics for UK gig 18
4:22 PM — Eminem has reportedly agreed not to perform any anti-gay songs in order to appear at the Wireless Festival next summer. The festival was said to be concerned about protests from gay groups such as OutRage! over some of the rapper's lyrics.

3:53 PM — Police officer Mark Carter, the 2006 Mr Gay UK winner, has been arrested on suspicion of a sex attack. Carter, who is a serving officer with Huddersfield Police, has been suspended from duty.

3:21 PM — The Inclusive Foundation, a gay rights group based in the eastern European country of Georgia, was raided by police earlier this month and its leader arrested. European gay organisation ILGA-Europe said the raid was motivated by homophobia.

12:32 PM — Archbishop of York John Sentamu, who was born in Uganda, has condemned the country's plans to introduce the death penalty of life imprisonment for gays. Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme this morning, he criticised the "victimising" language in the bill and said the communion was "committed" to listening to the experiences of gay people.

11:26 AM — The Ugandan minister for ethics and integrity has suggested that the country will ditch its plans to execute gays in favour of life imprisonment. James Nsaba Buturo said this would allow authorities to rehabilitate gays.

Lithuanian parliament revises ‘gay ban’ law 10
5:09 PM — Lithuania has revised a controversial law banning the "promotion" of homosexuality. The country's parliament voted 58-4, with 25 abstentions, to amend the law. It prohibited the "public dissemination" of any materials which could be seen to promote homosexuality.
Head of Russian Orthodox Church condemns discrimination against gays 28
4:09 PM — The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, has said that although homosexuality is still a sin, gay people must not be discriminated against.
Katy Perry in trouble over ‘transphobic’ tweet 19
2:48 PM — Katy Perry has been accused of transphobia after using Twitter to mock a photo of trans man. The singer, who found fame with her faux-lesbian hit I Kissed A Girl, posted a photo of a naked man with a beard, hairy chest and breasts.

1:42 PM — From today, 'legal highs' such as GBL, BZP and Spice will become Class C drugs. GBL (gamma-butaryl lactone), which is said to be popular on the gay club scene, is a liquid used in paint stripper and nail varnish remover.
