Police officer Mark Carter, the 2006 Mr Gay UK winner, has been arrested on suspicion of a sex attack.

Carter, 27, who is a serving officer with Huddersfield Police, has been suspended from duty.

The alleged incident took place in a Leeds city centre hotel room last weekend. Carter was understood to be out clubbing with colleagues.

According to the Huddersfield Examiner, a West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police arrested a 27-year-old man at a hotel in Leeds on suspicion of committing a serious sexual offence, on Saturday, December 19th.

“Enquiries are ongoing and the man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

“The man has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.”

Carter was named Mr Gay UK 2006 and came runner-up in the European contest in 2007.

He came out in 2005 and has served with Huddersfield Police for four years.
