Fasting has its good points when done in moderation. On the other hand, it could kill a person who is already malnourished, and it does make the mind more susceptible to credulity; more receptive to the word of god, as “they” say.

That the death penalty for gays will be ditched according to the Minister of justice is simply not good enough. Homosexuality needs to be decriminalized, and religion kept out of politics.

A fair amount actually, a lot of it through, or directed by, the Welsh Overseas Agencies Group (WOAG). I admit this may seem odd, given that much of Wales (especially the north) is itself pretty much Third World as regards poverty, lack of infrastructure and absence of industry. But handing out overseas aid is all part of the Weslh Assembly’s pretence that Wales is an independent nation. It makes the WA feel self-important.

As for why the WA would not regard a little matter of the judicial murder of homosexuals as reason to cut aid, one should not be really surprised. Wales does NOT have a great history of toleration towards gay, lesbian or transsexual folk, despite the pronouncements of a few WA politians to the contrary. When I lived in London I knew a fair few young gay welshmen. Now I live in North Wales, I know NONE…. Homophopbia and Transphobia are endemic here.
Thank god I am moving back to civilisation.

I don’t pretend to know everything, but I have been following this issue for a couple of weeks. Several governments have expressed their opposition of this bill to the Ugandan Gov’t, as has the EU, the UK and the US. The Uganda Gov’t has replied that it will not give in to foreign influence, and that homosexuality in Africa is a result of colonialism in the first place.

Dr. Rowen Williams has not succeeded in persuading the archbishop of Uganda to come around to Canterbury’s way of thinking.

Everyone seems to agree that such deep-seated hatred for homosexuality has been promoted by the teachings of American fundamentalists groups, notably Rick Warren and “The Family”.

But to threaten to execute homosexuals sounds like the influence of Jihadists or the Taliban to me, e.g. Iran,Iraq.

Homophobia has any number of causes. I prefer to concentrate on a cure, since it is mental illness.

For the record, it makes me sick at heart too.
