Two young women were injured in Plymouth when they were attacked outside a bar.

The pair, one in her teens and one in her early 20s, told police they were attacked by a group of men outside Goodbody’s cafe and bar at around 3.15am on Monday morning.

They had been in the popular Mutley bar with a group of friends when the men allegedly started making homophobic remarks and gestures at them.

After a row, the men left to get in a silver taxi but called the women over to the car and before a fight broke out.

The women told police they were then attacked.

One reported being punched in the face while the other said she was knocked to the ground and her head was kicked.

As the men ran off, the women called for medical help. One was treated at the scene.

PC Ryan Northmore, who is investigating, told the Plymouth Herald they were “lucky” to avoided more serious injury.

Three men aged between 30 and 33 were arrested nearby on suspicion of assault just after the attack was reported.

They were interviewed and released on bail pending further enquiries.
