That sucks. McDonald’s is actually one of the better employer’s for sexuality and gender awareness/equality (don’t eat there but nice to be in the know), but there’s always going to be douchebags with power.

I never thought I’d say this, but, it’s a good thing she was dealing with a multinational. They have interests that extend beyond mere geographic boundaries. If she had been dealing with a company entirely based in the spiteful little hellhole that is Florida, they would have fought her every step of the way. Maybe even sent out a government-sanctioned mob to lynch her or something. That’s how Florida deals with people who are different.

And thanks for the vid, Abi. Dude sounds like he has some serious problems.

  4. Read the sickening comments after the YouTube clip. Of course, people can hide behind anonymity there and express their hatred without restraint. It tells us there’s still far to go.
    We’re with you, Zikerria.

How do we contact McDonalds to express our disgust?

  5. I’d suggest boycotting McD but I never eat there anyway!

Fortunately, those with intelligence and decency seem to be doing an excellent job of routing the bigots. Also, check out the thumbs up/down. There’s many more people who watch these videos than the people who comment, and thankfully they seem to see sense.

  7. What kind of braniac leaves those types of messages? Someone is not so swift. Sue not only the restaurant but the person who left the brillant message, then laugh all the way to uni. Wishing you the best of luck with things.

I think it was VERY good that McDonalds fired him! It shows they have something going for them, why boycott them when they have clearly shown that attitude is not welcome there?

The caller is obviously a nutter too stupid to realise he was leaving incontestable evidence and deserved to be sacked. The bigger question is whether what he thought and did reflects a wider culture int MDs in Florida or elsewhere. Maybe the court case will bring it out.

Haha, we both misunderstood different people!

I was going to comment on Ari’s post, because it seemed like it was an insult, but I couldn’t quite figure out what they were trying to say.

Mithos, on the other hand, is on our side. Mithos said it was good that McDonalds fired the manager (not Zikerria!), and that boycotting them would send the wrong message because they were supporting us. Personally, I agree with that. I can think of plenty of reasons to boycott McDonalds, but I think they did well here. This manager is more indicative of Florida’s mindset than of McDonalds.

  13. My apologies to whomever I misunderstood.
It’s hard to work out who’s saying what!
