I don’t understand why it took this long for Bollywood to feature a gay love scene. They have the gayest film industry in the world: musicals, over the top acting and leading ladies who dress like drag-queens. I mean, it’s a bit like having Paul Lynde sing “I Am What I Am” for the first time.
I really can’t understand what your difficulty is, ND: look at Hollywood – however camp it is, just how truly gay-friendly is it? In ‘Philadelphia’, for example, you have a gay protagonist who dies: surprise, surprise. And in that same film, the only same-sex kiss is heard, not seen.
Please don’t make the mistake of comparing independent US films, which are a world away from ‘Hollywood’, with ‘Bollywood’. Be fair, and compare like with like.
