A new gay storyline may be in the pipeline for Emmerdale character Aaron Livesy, played by Danny Miller.

The bad boy character begins to question his sexuality next week after trying to kiss his friend Adam Barton (Adam Thomas).

Miller told Digital Spy he would be happy to act in a gay storyline if scriptwriters decide to create one.

He said: “I think for them to do that, it would take a lot of time and a lot of effort to make the viewers believe it.

“If they did that, I wouldn’t have a problem with it because I think I’d know the right way to play it, knowing Aaron and knowing a couple of homosexuals myself I’d know how to play it, but from a viewer’s point of view, it would be rather difficult to take this naughty, unpunished school lad – I think the viewers would have a problem with seeing a whole new character.”

Miller said he didn’t know what was in store for Aaron but said he believed the production team could make a gay storyline convincing.

The soap has had several gay characters before, such as Grayson Sinclair (Christopher Villiers) and Jonny Foster (Richard Grieve).

In 2008, Grieve’s character entered into a civil partnership with Paul Lambert, played by Matthew Bose.

Gay characters in soaps have become far more commonplace in recent years and gay kisses between both lesbians and gay men have been screened.

One of the most high-profile this year has been the relationship between EastEnders characters Syed and Christian.

A kiss between the pair in June was watched by 7.9 million viewers, earning it a 38 per cent share of the total viewing public.
