Gay actor Rupert Everett has said he will leave the UK if the Tories win the next general election.

Everett, 50, told the Guardian: “I’m not going to stay if David Cameron gets in.”

When asked why he disliked the Conservative Party, he said: “Because they’re posh. I don’t believe them. And I don’t want the country run from yachts.”

The actor, who had a privileged upbringing himself, added that the party has “no perspective on reality”.

On civil partnerships, he commented: “If you want to have a marriage with some bad-tempered cow from Camden Council officiating, then you must have that, and I think it’s nice that you can have it.

“But I liked being a poof when it was illegal, frankly; it gave me a sense of being outside.”
