Police officers disciplined for homophobic emails
Two police officers in Leith, Scotland, have been disciplined for sending homophobic emails to colleagues in the Gay Police Association and choir.
According to the Edinburgh Evening News, they had used a co-worker’s computer with his knowledge to send the messages, which were subsequently traced back to them.
Leith Police confirmed the pair had faced a misconduct hearing but did not state what punishment they received.
A police source said the “nasty” emails to the choir inferred they were gay.
Christina Stokes, a spokeswoman for Stonewall Scotland, told the newspaper: “A good employer will take incidents like this extremely seriously and make it clear that homophobic behaviour will never be tolerated.
“It’s particularly important to do this when Lothian and Borders Police have been working to build bridges with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.”
