Abi, that murder would appear to be politically motivated in light of recent scandals rather than a transphobic attack but it’s of course chilling to read about this murder today of all days…

“According to transgenderdor.org, it is estimated that 117 trans people worldwide have been murdered this year, although it is expected the actual figure is higher.”

We are talking about living, breathing, talented and innocent human beings here, not just numbers.

My deepest sympathy goes out to members of the families of these victims of hate-crimes, and my warmest friendship goes out to all you wonderful Trans, especially you Lady T.L.P. Love you xoxoxoxoxo

I have been attacked many times for being myself, a transsexual woman. We are a constant target of blind transphobia from the uneducated and ignorant within society.

Perhaps it would be appropriate to mention the thousands of human beings murdered worldwide due to hatred, life does not just revolve around the unnatural.

Anonanon, I think the only thing that’s unnatural is to not feel any compassion when our fellow human beings are killed.

  8. I’m not one of your regular readers – and the first I’d heard of the Remembrance event was when I met some people on the train last night who’d been to it! What they had to say made me come home and Google to learn more. I just want to say that it is indeed horrific what some self-righteous bigots will do to their fellow human beings – but it’s incredibly sad that the mainstream media didn’t see fit to cover it.

I attended my first Transgender Day of Remembrance event in Adelaide, Australia. One of my friends in transitioning and I have recently met a number of transgender people and I am sure learning a great deal. We had a ceremony of remembrance and then had a dinner together. It was wonderful that people from all walks of life and all genders came together for the evening. I have been very moved by the stories that I have been told by transgender people and I agree the media should be doing more to educate the community about such issues.
