Eh, you already are! As clearly seen how you lap dogged up the back side of that intellectual Neanderthal, George W Bush, during his last term. “Special Relationship”? Sure is, the US urinates all over Britain and you still ask for more, all the while blaming your “loss of sovereignty” on the EU. That’s pretty special to me.

Fair enough.

But let’s see what happens if Britain decides to leave the EU.

The EU is FAR bigger than Britain and will be far better able to negotiate favourable energy and trade deals with Russia and China. And if Britain leaves then the EU can negotiate a better deal for itself at Britain’s expense if it so wishes.

If Britain wants to go it alone, then by all means they can do that.

All it will mean is than 25 years later Britain will be begging to rejoin the EU for much less favourable conditions.

I mean keeping the pound has hardly protected the British economy during the recession has it.

Independence is worth more than “influence”; Britain should no more be “the 51st state” than it should the 25th state of Europe.

Funny how those usually rabidly anti-imperialist use imperialist ideals of “influence” and “major players” to further their European Federalist views.

Free trade for all, free independence, freedom, not oppressive socialist/federalist dogma.

In 1994 it bgan negotitations with the EU to safegaurd its economic interests with the EU. As a result 10 treaties were negotiated covering a broad spectrum of issues:

Free movement of people, Air traffic, Road traffic, Agriculture, Technical trade barriers, Public procurement, Science, Security and asylum (Schengen membership), Cooperation in fraud pursuits, and Final stipulations in open questions about agriculture, environment, media, education, care of the elderly, statistics and
services.

These treaties allow the Swiss to integrate into the rest of the EU without being subsumed by it. It controls its currency, its borders, its laws. It governs itself.

I have no problem with the original idea behind the EU, a ‘common market’, as presented at the time, but a centrally governed single state, I am totally opposed to.

Like that’s going to happen.

Unless of course Britain wants to become the 51st state of the US.

Because let’s face it. Britain is too small to remain a major player on its own.

And lets examine the Scandinavia:

Denmark, Sweden, Finland – all happily in the EU
Norway – going there
Iceland – almost there

I think the EU ought to open itself a lot more to the people, so that it doesn’t become a scapegoat for just about every domestic issue, which is the case in the UK. Transparency, openness and effectivity; what has been achieved for what amount of money. I too would like to know that.

EFTA preference (European Free Trade Association) preference has for years given the EFTA countries reciprocal trading arrangements with EU countries, permitting a ‘common market’. Several countries such as Sweden and Austria have now been sucked into the Federal State but several others still enjoy preferential trading agreements whilst still being outside through ETTA preference.

The for and against lobbies always seem to overlook the third option available to us, which is to exit the Union and maintain trade via EFTA preference.

I say Italians, precisely because they are corrupt and dodgy. Have you ever checked the history of Italy? How much territory they have gained, even though they have lost almost every war? Give me an Italian diplomat over a Swedish one any day.

Gordon Brown is a unique case. The rest of them WERE elected, because the parliamentary systems of most European countries don’t allow for such anomalies to happen.

I can’t imagine the EU without GB, and vice-versa. But if you really think that the EU has somehow caused your ginormous deficit, then fine, leave. We’ll see how that pans out.

I also see no problem with her election. She was unanimously appointed by democratically elected heads of government. I actually oppose the idea of an EU-wide election for the President of the EU Council, just because we are NOT a state.

Incidentally, to all those naysayers that claim that our trade and standards will collapse if we are not part of the EU, – A recent survey examined the general standard of living and which countries worldwide are the best, (and worst), places to live; Number one turned out to be Norway, a country that has emphatically refused to join up.
