The city of Worcester is to hold its first Pride festival in 2010.

Organisers say the event is scheduled for June 26th at Pitchcroft Racecourse.

It will be free and there will be with number of activities taking place during the day and evening.

There will be a main stage with live entertainment such as bands, drag artists and dance troupes.

As well as dance and beer tents, there will be a women’s chill out tent, dedicated children’s entertainment, fresh food and refreshments, a fashion show, a civil partnership area and a full market stall area selling everything from LGBT items, to local arts and crafts and a presence from a variety of charities.

Event manager Lee Winters told the Worcester News he had secured the support of at least two celebrities for the event but could not reveal any details yet.

He added: “It is going to be electric. It is very exciting, it is definitely going to happen and everybody is invited.”

It is believed that 5,600 lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people live in Worcester, although Pride festivals usually attract thousands of people from other areas.

Any profits made on the day will go to local charities, including those who raise money for cancer and HIV sufferers.
