This rumour has been around for 20 years.

I agree with Gayle King – if Oprah were a lesbian I think she would be open about it.

  2. Gayle King has at least denied it in a non-homophobic way, which is uncommon enough.

  3. Its not any of Rosie O’Donnell’s business to go around saying who may be a lesbian or not. O’Donnell just enforces the attitude in society that once a woman reaches a certain age and she is not married or in a relationship she must ether be a lesbian or have something wrong with her. O’Donnell has not even considered Oprah Winfrey might be asexual or somebody who just enjoys her own company.

The time of publicly outing public figures has passed unless they are hiding their sexuality behind bigotry and acting like a hypocrite.

Leave the poor woman alone to live her life how she wants.

I say out there, the whole world is QUEER exept thee ‘n me and even thee’s a little queer!

  5. Really, who cares any more?
Gay or Straight or anything inbetween, Oprah wouldn’t give a sod one way or the other.
She’s a role model for every human being irrespective of where they came on the gender spectrum.
    What a silly little non-story.

Oprah has been in a relationship for over 20 years with Stedman Graham. They’ve never married and he keeps a very low profile, as he never appears at public events with her.

Perhaps the fact that she has always been accepting of gay people makes people think she is gay.

Back in 1986 she did a show from a village in the South where the topic was how the community in question had totally shunned a man who was dying from Aids. She condemned their attitudes (this was back when Aids hysteria was extremely high)

She also played Ellen’s therapist on Ellen’s sitcom on the famous ‘coming out’ episode where she helped Ellen come to terms with her lesbianism.

Plus many of her staff and show contributors are gay.

This type of accepting behaviour does not sit well with more conservative people.

  8. I don’t think she’s gay. She’s been in a stable relationship for over 20 years. The fact that she harddly takes her boyfriend out in public tells me she’s not using him as kind of prop & that the relationship is probably genuine. And prior to getting involved with Stedman, she lived with guy for 5 months in Chicago who tried to write a tell-all book about her & she had numerous men in Baltimore, college, high school & was even a promiscuous teen who had a baby at 14. The gay rumour only started when she played the therapist on Ellen’s comming out show in the late 1990s. For the first decade of her national career there were no rumours she could be gay, despite all tabloid coverage she got. And there’s no sexual chemistry at all between Oprah & Gayle. They act like cousins not lovers. Rosie is tone deaf.

  9. This is one reason that many straights do not speak out in favour of gay issues. Why should her support for gay issues raise speculation about her orientation?
