BNP chairman Nick Griffin has claimed that former National Front leader Martin Webster offered to have sex with him when he was 16.

Webster has maintained for years that he and Griffin had a four-year affair, something Griffin has always denied.

In an interview with The Times, Griffin said he had often stayed in Webster’s London flat as a teenager but was not aware Webster was gay until he propositioned him one night.

Griffin said: “Despite having been to a boys’ public school, I didn’t really think anyone was a homosexual before that.”

At the time, the organisation believed in the outlawing homosexuality. When asked whether he found it strange that a senior member of the party was coming on to him, Griffin said: “I certainly did. It was a bit of shock.”

He added that if the story of the four-year affair was true, this would make Webster a paedophile as the age of consent for gays was 18 in the late 1970s.

Webster, who says he was kicked out of the National Front because he is gay, has continued to claim the affair happened.

Griffin said he would not take legal action, saying “he is a silly old queen and I can’t be bothered”.

The issue of homosexuality came up on Question Time last night, on which Griffin was a panelist.

I’m against the teaching of homosexuality to primary school children, I’m against teaching any sex to children,” he said.

He also added that the sight of two men kissing in public was “a bit creepy” and criticised “militant homosexuals”.

“I took a party that said that homosexuality should be outlawed, militant homosexuals don’t have the right to teach it.”

This was met with angry outbursts from the audience, with one man shouting: “Rubbish – you’re a disgrace.”

When a lesbian audience member, Beth Mellington-Pritchard, stood up to tell Griffin “the feeling of revulsion is mutual”, Griffin smiled and laughed.
