A man who knifed a gay man to death before stealing his jewellery has been jailed for a minimum of 27 years.

Sami Mahmoud Salama, 37, knifed Dilip Unadkat, 48, five times in the chest at Unadkat’s home in Empire Way, Wembley, last November.

Salama claimed the older man had tried to touch him sexually but Judge Giles Forrester ruled that he had gone to Unadkat’s home with the intention of killing him and stealing from him.

According to the Harrow Times, Judge Forrester told Salama at the Old Bailey : “This was a murder done for gain.

“It was clear on the evidence you were the architect and prime mover of all that took place, and you are a devious, manipulative, and highly dangerous man.”

Illegal immigrant Salama is to be deported back to Egypt once his sentence is served.

Unadkat worked in House of Fraser on Oxford Street. He had met Salama in the street and invited him back to his home.

After stabbing him to death with a kitchen knife, Salama covered the Oxford Street worker’s body in moisturiser in an effort to hide forensic evidence.

He then stole some gold jewellery from the property and ran off.

Another man who was present at the flat when the murder happened was found not guilty.

Ahmed El-Shubrawy, a 27-year-old plasterer from Perivale, said he had been present at the property but had been in another room when Unadkat was killed.

During the four-week trial, Salama had attempted to blame El-Shubrawy for the killing. He said he had covered the victim’s body in moisturiser because the sight of blood made him feel sick
