What did the French team expect? Did they naively suppose that the Muslim team was actually tolerant enough to play with them? How naive! How wishy washy multicultural! Face reality: Islam hates gays. Show me one Islamic country where it is safe for a gay man or a lesbian to visit?

The reason homophobia is not such a big deal in Europe (or North America) as it is elsewhere is to to with the wealth of the people within those societies. The western world is rich therefore religion plays a much smaller influence on the society. Muslim countries are generally far poorer therefore people rely on religion. And religion is homophobic.

These idiots in the Fremch muslim football team need to realise that their religiously sanctioned bigotry has NO place in a western, secular democracy. They can believe what they like but when their personal superstition allows them to engage in bigotry then their religion becomes a problem. This stupid football team should be kicked out of their league.

Are you sure about that?

With the exception of Turkey I can’t think of a single predominantly muslim country where homosexuality is accepted, never mind legal.

Islam seems to breed cultures which are homophobic. Look at Iraq under Saddam. Vile dictator that he was under his regime gay life was a lot easier than it is now in the ‘liberated’ Iraq where gay men are being targeted for slaughter by the religious fundies with the tacit approval of the democratically elected government.

Hi Simon, as with most religions most of the homophobia comes from the decision makers not from the people. Prime example is the Catholic Church where the pope gives all the posturing and condemnation but in reality at grass roots if you were to go to church and say ‘actually I’m gay’ you will find a different welcome. One of acceptance rather than fire and brim stone. OK you wouldn’t get that in a Muslim Mosque but on a one to one, face to face with an individual, no-one cares. (Anyone struck up a conversation with a Muslim taxi driver when you’ve been picked up from the club), It’s the same with all walks of life. What you read is not necessarily what is happening in the real (grass roots) world.

What is the mainstream muslim organisation in Britain? The Muslim Council of Britain is it not?

Please provide a link to a news story where they unequivocally condemn homophobia?

They never have, have they? They support homophobia in fact don’t they?

Unless a muslim organisation is willing to accept that gay people are deserving of the same rights as muslims then you cannot pretend you are fighting extremism. A muslim organisation which tolerates homophobia is already an extremist organisation.

It seems to me that muslims tend to make up things that suit them at the time. women can’t drive in Saudi Arabia; its against the Koran. So how come they drive over here, even if they only have a tiny slit to see out of? Homosexuality is devilish so why do so many middle eastern men indulge in gay “rumpy pumpy?” Drinking is the Urine of Satan, but again, lots of muslim men drink…need I go on? So yet again, this story is of a similar vein!

Can you confirm if the French equivalent of the Muslim Council of Britain has condemned the bigotry and stupidity of the cavedwellers belonging to the football team.

I know not ALL muslims are backward cave-dwellers. This football team certainly is. And I want to see if any mainstream French muslim organsation has condemned them.

Want to bet that none of them have?

We should be trying to break down the barriers rather than fuel bigitory that you seem to have. I am totally aware of the dangers and do not live in a ‘fantasy world’. But as the saying goes keep your friends close but your enimies closer. What your comments say to me is that you are the dangerous one as you are not willing to discuss change with the option of a better understanding of others because you do not agree to disagree with oppossing opinions. You breed fear with your own ignorance. This is how fighting and wars begins.

Having been working on hate crime and extremist groups with muslims in the last couple of years we can work together in fighting hate crime.

Educate yourselves, there are a huge diversity of Muslim believers as there are a huge diversity of Christian believers, some of whom would equally refuse to interact with people they know are gay.
