I would not qualify for NHS treatment because I am not 'a heterosexual couple' so left to seek private treatment with donor sperm. I guess they need to draw the line someone. If they treat lesbians then what happens to single women? I guess they have to draw the line someplace. I always assumed that lesbians seeking this treatment did so privately. It was ALWAYS my impression that the NHS only allowed it in cases of infertility. It's not right, it's not fair. But I am thoroughly unsurprised about this. The trouble is, the plight of lesbians wanting children isn't likely to get much sympathy in the wide, cruel world. Just imagine the homophobic tabloids running a story in which some old lady of 80 can't get a hip replacement while a lesbian couple get a baby on the NHS. They would go into a frenzy claiming NHS resources were being squandered and this issue would have even less sympathy and understanding. I don't think there is a way out of it. Ah.
