Police are urgently appealing for witnesses to a homophobic attack in central London.

A 62-year-old man is in hospital suffering serious head injuries after he was attacked near Trafalgar Square on September 25th just before midnight.

He and and another man were verbally abused by a woman. Following the argument, the woman and two friends – a man and another woman – kicked him to the ground.

Detective Chief Inspector Alexis Boon said: “This was a vicious homophobic attack on two men who had done nothing more than come into central London to enjoy a night out and were verbally abused and assaulted within minutes of getting off the bus.

“This was an isolated incident but the three suspects may have been abusive to members of the public earlier on in the evening.

“I want to appeal for witnesses, not just to anyone who may have seen the assault, but also to anyone who may have had contact with this group earlier on the evening.”

The two women are aged between 16 and 20 and have blonde hair. Their male accomplice is described as dark-skinned and around 5 ft 8 inches tall.
