Speaking as an ex-Soldier of the 1960s. It is amazing to me, since in my day, we were regarded as 'Sick.' When I was in the middle east, I told my Commanding Officer I was Gay. I was immediatley transfered to a cushy posting in Cyprus. There was other Gay Soldiers there but very repressed. Trooper James Wharton, Gay Hero in my estimation.
