First of all it is a "domestic partnership" - NOT A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP!!!!!

Nevada's domestic partnerships laws are the exact same as the Oregon and Californian model. Washington state will vote in November 2009 on domestic partnerships and Maine will vote on gay marriage - which is also in November 2009. The District of Columbia might legalize gay marriage by the end of this year or early next year.

The state of New York won't legalize gay marriage because the New York State Senate is still way to conservative and divided on the issue. The New York State Assembly always votes in full favour!!!!

It is a step in the right direction - but we as gay people want marriage!!!!!

Second employees have the right to refuse recognising domestic partnerships because health care benefits have become such a problem in the US generally costing over a trillion dollars (no fudging of the figures here). However there is some ambergurity because it also says "you can not discriminate domestic partners".

A step in the right direction, yes - but still not fair:

It offers "some of the rights and responsibilities available to married couples."

Some... But not healthcare, for example, which is a major thing in the US. Why not?

The Equality Network has just launched a survey of people's views on marriage and civil partnership law, as part of our work for equality.

If you have time, please let us know what you think! The survey is available here.

Thanks!

A move in the right direction. I am pleased to see that straight people can enter CP's as well. The Nevada CP's are better as a result as they are available to all and not created specifically to fob off the gay couples.

Now let's hope that gay people can get marriage equality as well
