What a huge non-issue – were Facebook to become compulsory it might be but as long as people are voluntarily posting all their details for all and sundry to read, the option is always there to keep what’s private private.
Well said Sister Mary. The simple fact is, anyone closeted who was worried about “being found out” probably wouldn’t be advertising anything on facebook by having loads of gay friends in the first place.
Umm so what? Rather a non story I think. The Net is not private. The net is public – know this, understand this, and accept this. The net is and must remain free forever for everyone.
Well, only (real-life) friends can access my facebook profile and friends listings. So, given that some of those friends include prominent gay people I guess my ‘other’ friends might figure out I’m gay! Oh shock, horror. As if I didn’t take that into account when setting up my profile already, or indeed give a toss!

It’s no so much my friends that would give it away but the fact it lists I am a fan of “Anne of Green Gables”.
What, the Net not confidential! What an idea!
