This would make a real difference to a child who otherwise would have a very bleak, uncertain future.

I wish the couple every success and hope they go through with this and give this (or another) child a chance at happiness. I’m sure they’d make great parents

I absolutely agree, whatever my negative opinions of Elton John, that child would have life chances he could never have dreamed of.

Life in a Ukrainian orphanage or life with a multi-millionnaire couple. People bitching on about it should consider their motives.

What ever Elton and David get out of it, the child gets far far more. I wish them every success.

Elton is so starved for publicity that he’d ruin a child’s life to make news? Be real Elton! How much time and energy does a 62 year old performer have for raising an infant? You’ll be 80 when he graduates high school? (If you live that long.) Sure, give the kid a trust fund. Then some REAL parents might adopt him and give him a REAL life.

  9. While there may be reasons to be concerned with the recent fad for celebrity adoptions, I can’t see how it’s worse than Michael Douglas, 65, having two small children. In any case David Furnish is a good deal younger than Elton and, as other people have pointed out, a Ukrainian orphanage is hardly a better place to grow up.

Jay – you can’t tell how old he’ll live or why he’s doing it
I think he’s genuine so good luck

  11. If Elton and David doing this gives an orphaned child a better life than what he currently has then how can anybody see it as a bad thing.

If in adopting a child it brings publicity to the fact that children can be adopted by a gay couple then it might encourage more gays and lesbians to come forward to adopt or even foster. There are thousands of children in care in the United Kingdom who need fostering or adoption.

There are those that will doubtless ask why can’t Elton John and David Furnish cannot adopt a British child and, whilst they have a point, if the Ukranian child that they are talking about has already taken to one of them which, from the sound of it has already happened, then why not?

What everybody should be considering here is the welfare of the child and I am sure that whoever they adopt that child will have a life that is way beyond their wildest dreams.

    Good luck luck to them

  12. @Alesha your the disgrace!!

Gay men and lesbians with their partners have the right ot adopt a child. most gay men and lesbians make EXCELLENT parents. I wish Elton and his “civil partner” all the best now and into the future. GOOD LUCK AT THE ADOPTION AGENCY!!!!

In the UK since 2006, same-sex couples can fully joint adopt children. Scotland’s adoption laws for same-sex couples will come into force from October 2009.

Or …. they might not and the kid is left in purgatory for the rest of his life

Thank you. Can’t understand the debate. How can anyone begrudge this child the future that Elton and Co can provide.

  16. There are plenty of kids up for adoption in the UK – Sir Elton should stop copying Madonna and look closer to home.

Uh, why? Kids in British orphanages have it bad, but those in Ukranian orphanages have it even worse. Or do you operate under some sort of “only help your own kind” mentality?
