So this is just one big website with a unique domain name? Or just a domain name for gays, like .org is for organizations? If its the latter I don’t see how it will help to facilitate the end user, it’ll just end up being over saturated like .com is.
Well that’s clever. Now all countries like China have to do is block all domains which have “.gay” and they’re sorted. Makes the government’s life a lot easier than having to track down every random gay pseudonymn and block websites based on those.
So gays in China, Eastern Europe, etc will be even more suppressed. Not to mention all those people out there who are coming to terms with their sexuality – if every gay-targetted website switches to “.gay”, it will prevent even more people from exploring and reading for fear of being found out by parents/family/schools etc who are unfriendly to gay people.
So in one foul swoop this restricts access to information for people who need it most: gay people in countries which are anti-gay and people coming out of the closet. Genius.
Someone please advise all gay-targetted websites NOT to switch to this idiotic new domain. Thank you.
I thought we wanted to be mainstream and get out of the ghetto? lets face it a (dot)gay domain is just another ghetto to put us in. Just think how easy it would be to filter out LGBT content with (dot) gay.
ICANN wouldn’t allow a .SEX TLD to transfer over all porn sites to ease control and management, so if a $12bn sex industry can’t do it, what chance do a silly little bunch of fairies have?

sorry I don’t ‘get’ why a dot gay would be useful

I think a dotcotton domain would be far more beneficial…

Cool! Except I’m not gay. Couldn’t they do one that covers different types of queers? Also I agree it’s a form of ghettoisation.
Ridiculous idea.

What, so G gets a domain and LBTQI get shafted?
It is an insane idea. Just another excuse for yet another ‘gay mafia’ to seek to exert its control over us and define what is and isn’t acceptable.
CJitNP A big thank you for your blog post. Thanks Again. Will read on…
