An episode of TV drama Mad Men which featured a gay scene has been attacked by the Parents’ Television Council (PTC) which says it should have been given a higher rating.

Earlier this year, the PTC complained about a Family Guy episode which showed a gay orgy.

They took objection to the Mad Men episode because it showed a scene between closeted gay character Salvatore Romano, played by the openly gay Bryan Batt and a hotel bellhop. In the scene, the two kissed and touched. The episode was given an TV-14 rating, meaning it was deemed suitable for children of 14 and over.

The PTC complained: “The basic cable episode contained a shot of a character’s hand going down into the underwear of another character for sexual stimulation, a half-naked woman whose hands covered her breasts just before insinuating that she had sex with another character, and a graphic scene with a prostitute that repeats several times, ‘I’m gonna cut your dick off and boil it in hog fat’.”

Time TV critic James Poniewozik said the conservative group had not complained about the previous two series of the show and suggested that the fact it featured “a big old gay kiss, between two gay men, kissing gayly in the gay manner” had prompted the attention.
