  1. I think all the backward thinking conservatives must end up in Alaska. what with this guy and the ex govenor Sarah “Moose huntin’, hockey mum homophobic pit bull, christian right wing” Palin I’m glad I don’t live in Alaska (maybe its sumit to do with the climate?????

  2. A retarded ‘mayor’ in a retarded state, full of retarded people.

Welcome to Bigot central, USA. The land of the homophobic bible bashers.

I must remember never to visit Alaska agin.

  3. What’s th betting, he’ll be arrested in a toilet within a few years, in a ‘compromising’ situation with a 16 year old on the rent.

His wife will stand by him.

  4. @ J Matthews: If he is arrested, and he can’t claim discrimination, then he’ll only have himself to blame at least.

Alright didn’t like my first reply, so here is my second.
The guy is most likely a closet queen or a towel head Muslim or a idiot Christian. Either way he has no business as a mayor and probably got elected by buying votes or cheating.

  6. ‘Retard’, ‘Towel Head”?

Denouncing intolerance whilst using terms like these isn’t exactly helpful, neither is accusing every homophobe of secretly being gay.

Moves to protect from discrimination are never unnecessary. Period.

2-A retarded ‘mayor’ in a retarded state, full of retarded people.
SO you admit that homos are retarded.

2-I must remember never to visit Alaska again.
I am sure they are going to cry into their tea cup when they know your not coming.

3-What’s th betting, he’ll be arrested in a toilet within a few years, in a ‘compromising’ situation with a 16 year old on the rent.
WHAT’S the betting that this comment is so old and worn out it will qualify for the museum being set up to display the boring life and comments of the gaystapo.

5- The guy is most likely a closet queen or a towel head Muslim or a idiot Christian. Either way he has no business as a mayor and probably got elected by buying votes or cheating.
OBVIOUSLY you do not know this comment is slanderous and he could sue you for everything you have got and haven’t got.

7-Moves to protect from discrimination are never unnecessary. Period.
SO we should protect paedophiles from discrimination???

  9. Reality Check – gays are not retarded

It would be good if pinknews were to include links to external sources (in this case the Mayor’s office, or some route via which readers could send emails). This applies not only to the Anchorage story but many others. The BBC’s news pages are very hlepful in this respect.

  11. ahhh the old compare gays to pedos routine… WHAT’S the betting that this comment is so old and worn out it will qualify for the museum being set up to display the boring life and comments of the nazi trolls.

Sadly Alaska has shown it’s true colors over the last year. It is a state chock full of ignorant right wing residents. From Palin to this mayor, the state has harmed itself immeasurably.

  13. He claims there is no need for this law but in itself he is then discriminating against the group he claims doesn’t need protection from discrimination
Proof again that you can’t be a politician if you are smart and think for yourself

  14. A couple things. Sadly enough, Alaska is not the last bastion of gaycist bigots in the US: the South is chock full of equally — if anything, often more vocal — hateful people. It’s sad and embarrassing and the only way to make that change is to put money and effort into educating people, not whinging on about how stupid people are (they are, we know that). You won’t change someone’s mind by calling him an idiot, fascist, or another other pejorative term.

It *is* quite stupid to assert that everyone in Alaska, or any other state that has shown “itself” to be anti-gay, is a monster. Thanks to the way government works here, a “majority” vote need only have one vote more than another to qualify as such. Look at how we got stuck with Bush the first time: the difference in votes was minute. There are lots of gay and lesbian residents in all our states, as well as people very supportive of gay rights, Christians who do not feel homosexuality is a sin, companies which provide equal benefits to both straight and gay employees, and the list goes on.

Furthermore, viewing a state as being entirely anti-gay does not take into account who voted in any given election and how much money went into the various campaigns. In California, Prop 8 passed because of two things: huge numbers of black and latino residents turned out to vote *only* because Obama was on the ticket. Statistics have consistently shown both groups are more anti-gay than not. They came to vote for Obama; they voted yes on 8 because it was there in front of them. The other factor in this is the huge amount of money that went into the pro-Prop 8 lot. I think everyone knows now that Mormon HQ in *Utah* donated a shocking amount of money and that that made a difference. I saw some of the pro-Prop 8 ads and they were good: they knew all the right buttons to push and how to do so in a calm, rational manner that made their claims believable.

This is a lot more than I intended to say. I guess I needed to take a break. Back to work.

Then why else would a so-called-straight-man be offended by gays if he is really straight? As any shrink will tell you closet gays use the excuse to attack other gays to cover up the fact they are gay in hopes they will mask the fact they are gay to others. If he is really “straight” then a gay person would be no threat to him because no one can become gay, they are born that way the same as a black person is born black or a Japanese person is born Japanese. A person can not change how they were born other than removing the sex organs or changing them, but their genes are the factor rather they are born homosexual or heterosexual. So its obvious the mayor is gay and he believes by his actions against gays he will appear in the eyes of others of not being gay, which of course is his illusion. Religious fanatics use the same excuse, except they use the excuse it says so in their fairy tale book.

  16. @Eagle Ashcroft

No, Sullivan vetoed this ordinance because he’s a run-of-the-mill right-wing Christian in a conservative state. If everyone who held his bigoted views was secretly gay then gays would be the majority in half of the states in America.

  17. Hey Eagle, you said, “Then why else would a so-called-straight-man be offended by gays if he is really straight? As any shrink will tell you closet gays use the excuse to attack other gays to cover up the fact they are gay in hopes they will mask the fact they are gay to others”

That’s a nice piece of homosexual propoganda — where did you
find that statement as a fact?

  18. Nice day
