A newly-recruited policeman has been giving a warning by Lothian and Borders Police for a homophobic internet rant.

Richard Wilson, 21, had just taken part in a passing-out parade at the Scottish Police College when bosses were alerted to remarks on his Bebo page.

His list of pet hates included “gays on TV… they shouldn’t be on Hollyoaks”.

He also attacked “Muslims who blow things up” and Ibrox striker Novo: “Nacho f****** Novo… we hope you die in your sleep”.

A source told the Sunday Mail that the rookie got “a real dressing down” over the page.

The source added: “He was told that if an experienced officer had been responsible for something similar, he’d be out the door.

“It looks like he’s been let off with a warning.

“What he said about gay TV characters is embarrassing – now everyone knows he’s a Hollyoaks fan.”

Lothian and Borders Police said: “The individual involved deeply regrets what he describes as the ill-considered and immature views expressed while he was a student.

“He has been warned that such comments will not be tolerated.”
