  1. It is not non-Christians who hold the Bible up to ridicule. In the past few decades, Christians have redefined themselves to make anti-homosexuality the defining issue. If you hear about a “Christian” activist, you just know what his or her cause is going to be. Why does this one issue take up so much of their attention? They strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. I wonder who said that.

  2. No need to cite Leviticus, prawns and mixed fibres. “Saint” Paul, who they rely on for their New Testament gay-bashing, also says: “Let your women keep silence in the church, for it is not permitted unto them to speak…”
The PCW ordains women; therefore it has picked and chosen which bits of the Bible it wants to follow. So its anti-gay rhetoric must be grounded in something else. They really should examine their hearts.

This is news? “Antiquated and entirely irrelevant hobby group espouses irrational bigoted views”. Who on earth cares about these people? Why do we keep giving them undeserved publicity? They have no moral or intellectual authority, their position is completely self-appointed and they haven’t had anything important to say in their entire history. The sooner everyone starts ignoring the deluded religious crackpots in our midst the better.

  4. Ha ha!
By which I mean: HA HA!

Why would anyone need to invest time ridiculing the bible, when there are people like Jonathan Hodgins around?
They’re bigger, louder targets and don’t even require proactive ridiculing – they simply open their mouths and ridiculousness ensues.

Whats sad is that Jonathan is obviously a young man-as he has a young son. God help that child if he turns out to be gay!

  6. I really don’t think this man is fit to be a parent. If he intends to brainwash a poor young child with hatefulness, which could turn into self-hate if the boy is gay, then he is not acting in that child’s best interests. I do think people like this who hold strong racist, sexist, disablist or homophobic views should have their children taken away from them for the protection of their children, or they should at least be forced to attend some sort of equalities training. The thought of people like this infiltrating faith schools is revolting.

So he’s comparing gay adults having a consensual sexual relationship to his one-year-old son playing with an electric toaster. What a stupid, ignorant pillock!

  8. Where the fuck in the bible does it say “Jesus loves the church”? The church didn’t even exist in Jesus’ time!

  9. Anybody who sees a loving relationship between a same sex couple as the same as fondness for a toaster should not be a minister of any religious group.

But that is of course a deliberate attempt to place heterosexual love in a superior position why is he so insecure we must ask?

Great comments, JCH and Vincent Poffley!

  11. Does anyone have an email address for this “gentlemen” – it would be good to write to him (preferably politely if one can grit one’s teeth sufficiently) and point out the millions of gay people who are in permanent legally recognised monogamous relationships (aka marriage) and to whom the comparison of our relationships to an infant’s wioh a toaster is deeply offensive.

  12. Will the Scouser 25 Jul 2009, 10:15am

Yes, Harry, but HE won’t see it as offensive. In HIS eyes those permanent legally recognised monogamous relationships are worthy of no more respect than a permanent legally recognised monogamous relationship between a guy and his electric toaster.

  13. I wonder if his church would conduct such a personal witchunt if his boy grew up to have a sexual toaster fetish? Or does he find gay people the easier target?
Maybe if we were chromium plated and came with a defrost option we wouldn’t come in for so much religious persecution.
Oh wait… my mistake, it was an utterly bogus analogy!

    Exactly..!
More to the point…God help JONATHAN if the child turns out to be gay..!
He’ll be all over the place.

The child’ll probably be quite able to fend for himself; we do, you know!
We just sort of ‘get-on-with-it'; the fuss i kicked up by the ignorant on-lookers.

    SALFORD.

    Please undertstand:

the Xian church is antipathetical to gays: no ifs, no buts, they will accept out money, and us if silent, but their creed is clear. Some may accept us, but are they truly Xian? Please don’t expect these self-righteous, sanctimonious god-botherers to embrac us without us “repenting” our lifes

COULD THIS BE HISTORY REPEATING IT’S SELF? ASK YOURSELF THE QUESTION AND ANSWERS ON A POST CARD AND ADDRESS TO: ‘THEY’RE AT IT AGAIN’ AN EGYPTIAN BOY SAID TO AN EGYPTIAN GIRL: COME ROUND THE BACK OF THE PYRAMID AND I’LL MAKE YOU A MUMMY!

  17. LOL So being gay is a bit like being interested in a toaster! Such weird and wonderful logic has cheered me up on a Monday morning.

  18. Jen Marcus 27 Jul 2009, 1:25pm

I sure love my “toaster,” she sure is HOT!

  19. I don’t get the connection between toasters and gay people
Maybe it’s that some can take 2 foreign objects at a time and others can take 4?
Who am i to judge, i always make sure my toaster takes 4

  20. They said the avg age of people attending the church is 70.

So for this homophobic institution, change is coming. it makes no sense to argue with these religious bigots always defending their past errors with more errors. And living in the dark ages.

But change is coming. Soon the wind will be the only voice preaching in the church. To the dust in the pews and the dust of the departed.

And these bigots will face the pearly gates, and discover that what opens is under them – the trap door to hell. For denying the humanity of gay people.

But they will have plenty of company, including people like Adolph Hitler, most of the Popes and their birdbrains (cardinals) and Pishops.

And Rowan Williams, who isn’t a real hater or anything like that, still has time – to admit he is wrong, and that unity with scum for the english Anglican church is wrong.

Please help Save Rowan Williams – send him a set of balls.
