A 16-year-old trans teenager who became an internet hit is launching a pop career.

Kim Petras, from Germany, began taking hormones at the age of 12 and underwent gender reassignment last year.

She is now hoping to reach stardom with her first single, Die For You.

Speaking about her transition, Kim said: “I felt like a girl, I thought of myself as a girl and everyone thought of me as a girl. The rest of it was just an accident of nature – and one I was determined to put right.

She added: “Whatever I had to go through at school when I was growing up when people weren’t very kind about what was happening to me, it was always the music that helped me.

“I am happy that I can write my own lyrics and music, and I’m happy that I’ve been really lucky in persuading enough people to help me to make what I want to become a reality.

“I wouldn’t change anything about me or how I got here. I’m doing what I love and am finally happy with who I am.”
