Cambridge’s Pink Festival has been cancelled due to funding difficulties.

In a statement released today, organisers said the free event had not secured enough funding and sponsorship, citing the current recession.

More than 15,000 visitors were expected to attend the August event, billed as gay Pride, a family day out and a music festival rolled into one.

Organiser Lara Jaffey said: “It is with a heavy heart we have had to make the decision to postpone Pink Festival 2009, however, we look forward to taking this opportunity to strengthen ourselves, relationships with our partners and we look to the future of the festival with hope and positivity.

“Thank you to everyone who has dedicated their time and energy to the event this year and in the past.”

It is now hoped enough support can be gathered to make 2010’s festival the biggest yet.
