Guests at Sir Elton John’s White Tie And Tiaras ball in Windsor yesterday evening were left shocked and saddened as news broke of the death of singer Michael Jackson.

Sir Elton’s annual event, which raises funds for his AIDS charity, is one of the best-attended celebrity bashes.

Guests such as Liz Hurley, Natalie Imbruglia, Matt Lucas, Tracy Emin and David Walliams were left stunned as news circulated of Jackson’s sudden death in California last night at the age of 50.

Brian Oxman, a lawywer for the Jackson family told CNN:

“This is a case of abuse of medications.

“This is not something which had been unexpected. Because of the medication that Michael was taking, his family had been trying for months and months and months to take care of Michael Jackson.

“The people who have surrounded him have been enabling him.

“If you think the case of Anna Nicole Smith was an abuse, it was nothing in comparison to what we have seen taking place in Michael Jackson’s life.”
