Cheney is such an odd fish. He stands for such secular liberal values as inclusivity and equality before the law, yet was the driving force of the horrible Bush administration!

This will probably be the only time that I shall ever agree with something that Cheney stands for, but one cheer for him on this issue nevertheless.

Mike, he’s not changed his tune at all. He always backed freedom for this matter whilst VP, on that he’s been consistent.

I’d stick my hand in a sack with a viper than trust Cheney on this.

As for the “states rights” issue, the GOP always says that … unless a state wants something contrary to the GOP party line (e.g. medical marijuana), at which point they use the Federal government to veto the state’s rights.

Sad that it probably took his own daughter being gay for him to realise this, but good on him for once – I wouldn’t criticise anyone who speaks up for freedom.

  8. There you go, doesn’t it make a difference when your own child turns out to be gay?

Lincoln said all people have the right to love somebody, included LGBT.
Marriage is a good thing. And gay marriage can be accepted is really a turning point for the life of LGBT. Actually, divorce may also happen to straight people. “As to love, we should cherish it and love the one you love. “It is what we all bisexual get after the discussion at the bisexual club of ____Seekbi—c o m____. Anyway, making the law of marriage and divorce more complete is good thing for us LBGT. Thanks for giving us more right and making things easier for us.
I think Obama should do sth for us

It is ONLY because he has a lesbian daughter. When issues are close to home, people care about them.

Whatever views he has, I frankly couldn’t care less. He shouldn’t be walking as a free man – he is a proven war criminal and outright lied to the American people countless times.

  13. Too little too late. I think his saying this only now is cowardly of him. If he had spoken up when he was in office, then maybe some good could have come of it. As it is, it will no longer make any difference. So much easier for him to say things like this when he doesn’t have to worry about his political career. If I were his daughter I’d feel very hurt by this.

    Cheney said:

” Addressing the National Press Club Mr Cheney, whose daughter Mary is a lesbian, said that freedom “means freedom for everyone”. ”

Unless of course you are in Guantanamo Bay where you can be held without charge and tortured at the whim of the US for an indefinite time. Cheney is an evil b@stard who along with his puppet Bush destroyed the reputation of the US and created a world far less safe than it was 8 years ago.

  16. Cheney did make some noises in office including publicly disagreeing with Bush about the need for a “Defence of Marriage” [sic] amendment to the federal constitution, and there were reports that behind closed doors he was one of the main forces stopping some of the more rampant homophobic elements of the administration. But it wasn’t exactly big hitting stuff.
