I’ve written to my MP about this, asking her to explain the government’s thinking behind it; especially how it relates to the recent Equalities Bill. Can I suggest others do the same?

In Northern Ireland the main body that provides sex education in schools teaches that same-sex attracted people do not exist but they are merely heterosexual people who are a bit confused. As NI Equality Law does not apply to schools, this is perfectly legal.

  3. it might lead to more bullying, def wont lessen the amount of bullying lgbt people get in faith schools. the govt were just sucking up to the imagianry sky man people (apparently they are more important)

It does seem particularly strange that the government should allow an opt-out on this, when they have (quite correctly) not allowed anti-gay extremists leeway in other areas of reform. After all, if there was ever an argument in favour of overruling the anti-gay lobbyists, it is to protect children from their evil machinations and endless plotting. As well as writing to individual MP’s, maybe Stonewall or OutRage! need to start a petition campaign to have this reversed.
