Love Makes a Family will close at the end of 2009Love Makes a Family, a group dedicated to campaigning for gay marriage, is to close at the end of this year.
The group, which has been running for almost a decade, now considers its work complete.
The Hartford, Connecticut, organisation has said that the state’s Supreme Court legalisation of same-sex marriage last autumn means they can close their doors with the knowledge of success.
A statement on the group’s website read: “With the knowledge that same-sex couples’ right to marry is secure, we can officially close our doors at the end of the year.”
The group formed in 1999 to lobby for legislation approving gay adoption, eventually growing into a statewide umbrella organisation for people and groups supporting gay marriage.
Connecticut and Massachusetts are the only states in the US to have legalised gay marriage so far.
