  1. Very sad. And, reading further about this case, how horrible that so many US LGBT people have to live abroad just to stay with someone they love. It’s completely unjust to be punished and discriminated against because of whom you love. I read that this couple have been together for 23 years.
I wish them both the best of luck in sorting this out.

so much for Obama’s new, kinder America.

What’s the use of having a “progressive” Democrat in the WH if the nation is still running on reactionary processes? I know he can’t do everything at once (he certainly isn’t re gays in the military) but som executive orders suspending the more heartless regs would be a start. Dubya used such orders to drag the US into a semi-police state state

  3. Obama only pays lip service to gay rights.

  4. Unfortunately, Obama can’t change things overnight and he can’t intervene in every case that he thinks is unfair or his aunt would have been granted asylum rather than still be fighting deportation.
And I think even is Shirley and Jay were married in California, that’s only recognised by the State of California. I think immigration legislation is set on a federal level.
Having said all that, it sucks that their family may be broken up because of antiquated legislation.

I may be mistaken But I think new legislation has already come out protecting this from happening.

I may be mistaken But I think new legislation has already come out protecting this from happening. Not too long ago we passed a email around saying this..

  7. I had to move to the UK for this very reason. They should hurry up and pass the bill already…
