Jimmy-boy – why not go the whole biblical route: “marriage should remain between a man and woman FOR LIFE”? See how many traditionalists will go for that one?

This isn’t necessarily the end of it. If he vetoes, his veto can be overridden provided two thirds of the Vermont Senate and two thirds of the Vermont House of Representatives vote in favour of overriding the governor. Since 26 of the 30 Vermont Senators apparently support gay marriage they have the majority required in that chamber, remains to be seen what happens in the House and whether the governor wants to embarrass himself by having his veto overridden.

Doesn’t he hav anything else to do in this life?

  5. marjangles: Yeah, that’s just what I was thinking. He might not be able to veto a bill passed by a wide enough margin. Still, it may depend on the state constitution. Let’s read the Constitution of Vermont, shall we?

  8. Sorry, but I have to agree, there is nothing equal about “adequate”. I look forward to seeing his veto overturned.

It would be fabulous to have the veto overridden. What a victory that would be! Let’s hope it happens.

He’s actually a Democrat, Brenton. Let’s hope it passes despite his shortsightedness.

Actually auranor, he really is a Republican. John Lynch from neighbouring New Hampshire is a Democrat who has to decide, should the bill pass the New Hampshire Senate, whether he will veto or not given his stance on gay marriage.
