Gay hotel: Sewage ‘was actually sand’

It has been claimed that Club Tucanes, the gay hotel in Gran Canaria which evacuated guests due to a ‘sewage leak’, was actually evicted for non-payment of rent.

Courthouse documents show the company had known for the last five weeks it was to be evicted from the premises but continued to take bookings.

According to holidaymaker Tim Maloney, graphic photographs released by Club Tucanes manager Gabriele Neroni purporting to show floors covered in sewage were actually just sand.

Mr Neroni released the photographs with the message: “Yes, that brown stuff is exactly what you think it is”.

Mr Maloney told PinkNews.co.uk: “They took our money knowing they were going to be evicted. The documents show they owe £196,000 in unpaid rent. A Coca-Cola delivery van arrived here the other night and the drivers insisted on taking cash. Apparently staff have not been paid.”

When asked why the club would state a sewage leak had caused it to evacuate guests, he said that Club Tucanes had been evicted from the BeachBoys complex last November for owing £186,000 and two evictions would make it very difficult for the company to launch a new hotel in the area.

Mr Moloney, who has stayed at the resort in previous years, added: “We will never book a holiday with them again. They are ripping people off and it needs to be stopped.”

Eyewitnesses reported seeing furniture being carried out of the complex as visitors were still arriving. Some said there were holidaymakers at the resort who had booked their vacations only days before.

Owner of Club Tucanes, Corka Zudaet, who rented the complex to Neroni, confirmed that he was evicted for not paying rent since September.

On the ‘sewage leak’, he said: “It’s not true.”

Mr Zudaet added: “He’s lying to everyone. He’s sacked the staff and never paid any of them. And they’ve trashed the place.”
