The father of a teenager accused of killing his gay fellow student was found dead on Wednesday, the same day the teenager was due to appear in court.
15-year-old Brandon McInerney of Oxnard, California is due to face trial for murder and hate crime over the death of Lawerence “Larry” King, also 15. His father Bill McInerey was discovered dead in his livingroom by a friend due to drive him to court.
An autopsy revealed McInerney died as a result of an accidental head injury caused by a fall. The county’s deputy medical examiner told reporters that alcohol was likely to have been a significant factor leading to the man’s death.
Lawrence King, 15, who self-identified as gay and wore feminine clothing, was shot in the head on February 12th during a lesson, allegedly by McInerney, his classmate at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard, California.
The shooting allegedly took place after the deceased asked McInerney to be his valentine.
As he is being prosecuted as an adult he could be sentenced to 50 years in jail if convicted.
The case continues.
