The co-owner of one of the UK’s largest gay websites has rejected criticism of his comments about Jade Goody.

Joe Hill said in an email to PinkNews.co.uk that people who have complained have been “brainwashed by the cult of celebrity.”

In the video, posted on Fitlads.net, the site he co-owns, and on YouTube, he expresses disgust that Ms Goody is still firmly in the media spotlight despite her illness.

The 27-year-old TV star has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

“It sounds as if you – and some other readers, have had a triple sense of humour bypass,” he wrote.

“She should die with dignity – I cannot believe the support, someone who announces their death to the highest bidder has achieved.

“This is vulgar in the extreme.

“To die on TV – are you seriously telling me that this isn’t worthy of ridicule? To die on f**king TV – to whore one’s last moments out to the highest bidder! Jesus wept!

“You cannot seriously see why this is tacky and vulgar? The cult of the celebrity has gone too far – and this
talentless woman, running around and inviting tenders for her final moments….

“Further – to take seriously, comments clearly about vegetarians and the Labour party, made by someone wearing a ‘gay Jesus offends Christians’ T-shirt…. Well, words escape me.

“I’m speechless, yet flattered to be considered PinkNews’s Jade Goody correspondent.”

Fitlads.net has more than 250,000 subscribers, most of them in the UK.
