  1. A bold step forward for the world. I wonder how other world leaders will react at summits (that is if Johanna’s other half attends – I have no idea if the other halves of Icelandic politicians ever appear with them).

    By the way on a pedantic point it’s not strictly accurate to refer to the new PM as “Ms Sigurdardottir” – traditionally Icelandic names don’t work that way. “Sigurdardottir” isn’t a surname but rather a name indicating “daughter of Sigurdar”. The correct short form is “Johanna”.

    And btw, the “gay man” who in 2002 for a short while acted prime minister of Norway in the absence of then-prime minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, was then-finance minister Per Kristian Foss. Publicly out since 2000 and in a registered partnership with the CEO of one of the larger media corporations of Norway.
