Thank you, Pink News, for posting the news of Michael Kirby’s retirement. In the small world in which we live, my gay neighbour across the street in downtown Ottawa, Canada is a personal friend of Kirby and sent him an email when I forwarded your news item to him. My neighbour, formerly Executive Secretary of the Law Society of the Province of Ontario, has impressed me with Kirby’s injunction that all GLTB’s must come OUT and make a difference in every way, every day and change the world. Accordingly, I came out to my 600 friends, acquaintensces, military colleagues, etc. in the city newspaper on a Monday morning, in a large picture and half a page commentary. That was a morning to remember, but I knew that Australian High Court Justice Michael Kirby was out there as a guding light.
