Rt. Rev. Robinson’s invocation, however, was not televised by HBO. Apparently, this was the decision of the Obama Inaugural Committee – to schedule this invocation as a “pre-event.” Not only was it not televised, the microphone strangely didn’t work for Bishop Robinson, so even if you were at the event at the Lincoln Memorial, you couldn’t hear his invocation. The gay men’s chorus sang backup for one event, but unlike the rest of the performers, they weren’t identified by the announcer or on the screen. Obama did mention “gay and straight.” Apparently his acknowledgment of our existence should be enough to satisfy LGBT people. No need to let the rest of the world hear Bishop Robinson or know that the chorus was made up of gay men. It seemed like a symbolic perpetuation of the general policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. I’m not a big conspiracy theorist, but this was very, very disappointing.
thank you god for your child gene, who no matter what they throw at him won’t be another kleenex. bless him keep him love him grace him and hear his prayer
Not bad for an opening prayer, and I’m speaking as an Atheist here. Too bad the Obama-team didn’t have the balls to have it televised, but we don’t want to upset some homophobic Christians, do we?
