It would be a good symbolic victory if a gay person was appointed to the cabinet. I doubt it will happen. By inviting a homophobic religious extremist to give his inauguration prayer Obama has indicated quite clearly that his gay supporters are not very important to him.

As much as I want full civil inclusion for the non-heterosexual community, this gay man preferring substance over symbolism hopes Komrad Obama chooses the best candidate for the post not the best gay candidate for the post. If the best candidate for the position is a non-heterosexual person so be it.
