Is anyone surprised that the Vatican opposes decriminalisation. The Vatican is in charge of the catholic church after all. And the catholic church remained silent about protecting jews during the holocaust. The catholic church has provided money and protection to the hordes of paedophiles who are also priests. The catholic church is supporting genocide in Africa by speaking out against condoms. The catholic church is a truly vile organisation. It’s an outrage that an undemocratic cult is allowed to hold a seat in the UN.

  2. I think the Vatican should be stripped of its “observer” status. Surely observers do just that – observe – not stick their oar in to try to promote their own agenda. I take they got it because the Vatican is a pretend country with its own “president” – the pope?

  3. The Vatican is not a democratically elected body, and its “opinion” should be treated no different to the opinion of a local golf club.

It is my understanding that same-sex marriage is recognized in more than double the number of countries mentioned in the article. Not only do we recognize it here in Canada, but also Belgium and South Africa, in addition to the Netherlands, Norway, Nepal, and Spain. It is still recognized in a couple of U.S. states including Massachussetts, and Connecticut. We shall overcome!

Re Simon and Chris: the Vatican City’s observer status entitles it to make comments (of course, I don’t support them). At the same time, it does not have a voting seat in the UN, since it is not a member state. So really all it can do is make such comments.

  6. Jen Marcus 2 Dec 2008, 2:40pm

Consistent with history, the Catholic Church is “out of step” with science, culture and civilization. The sad part about it is that it also acts contrary to the teachings of Christ :His law of Love as explicated by the Beatitudes. These blatant contradictions have historicaly martyred and excommunicated many of its own followers and Saints who had the courage to challenge its hypocritical authority and behaviour . If Christ came back today, He would undoubetdly disassociate Himself with such an institution, or any other religous or secular institution that espouses and teaches hate, bigotry, and emotional and physical violence against any part of humanity: God’s Children!

  7. Sister M. Renate ECSF 2 Dec 2008, 3:15pm

My answer to this is, ” they would would’nt they.” Nothing unusual about that response from Monsignor What’s his face! Christ said he would remain with us even to the end of time; He is still at the helm, not the small time bigots we encounter every now and then. We should all be of good cheer, because we are here, and there is nothing “they” can do about it.

  8. Such an attitude as this merely gives currency to the view that Roman Catholicism is the working of evil in the world.

  9. Har Davids 2 Dec 2008, 4:16pm

Can’t expect anything else from the boys in the Vatican, universal freedoms be damned, even though theoretically all members of the UN should be supporting them of course. Too bad there are still too many believers on this planets, and that some of them seem to be worthy to have access to the UN.

Makes me wonder how many wars and other atrocities were ever started by outspoken atheists?

The Bitter Old Queens of the Vatican strike again! But the rest of us who might conceivably fit the
description of old queens but have not lived lives of contradiction and self-delusion like those in the Catholic Church can take heart. On the US Catholic channel called EWTN they have a show called Life on the Rock which is supposed to be aimed at young people. the funny thing about it is that in its opening credits, accompanied by a pseudo-rock song, they flash pictures of various personages with the appropriate virtue above their head. Faith. Courage, etc. But when they flash Happiness, a picture of Mother Theresa of Calcutta appears. Well her diaries reveal that she was a
very unhappy person in every way. They can argue that she had saintliness. But happiness is a human state, which Catholics are always arguing goes along with blessedness. How else would you try to attract young people. It shows how false, even about things they themselves have admitted, they are. We gay people can thus take heart. These awful prelates who oppose our basic human rights are likely to be amongst the most miserable human beings on earth. As St. Thomas Aquinas
said, one of the chief joys of heaven is contemplating the miseries of the damned. But seriously,
if there is a more contradicted damnable lot it is hard to imagine it.

Jonnielondon, exactly so. Soon, Sweden will be added to the list and yes, we will overcome, it is inevitable. We are winning the cultural war, slowly but surely. Since the passage of Proposition H8 in California….it has galvanzied our movement nationwide. Not since the advent of AIDS have we seen our movement so united. Many of us are now advocating the removal of tax-exempt status that influence, advocates and supports discriminatory legislation towards the LGBT community. The gloves are coming off and we’re not going to be so nice any more and neither can the politicians take our votes for granted, they’ve yet to earn them. Our economic muscle and political strength will win us our full rights. The Vatican cult’s days are numbered, among others.

  12. “Blah! Blah! Blah!” from the Roman Catholic Church again. Praying on peoples fears that this Declaration, presented by the French Republic will introduce same-sex marriage. and so what?

Please read the following article published in 1998, by the Irish Times “When Marriage between Gays was by Rite”

    http://www.drizzle.com/~slmndr/salamandir/pubs/irishtimes/opt3.htm

This is the history which the Catholic Church wants to suppress.

As Jen Marcus, said, the Church is behind in the times. It took 350 years for the Church to admit that they made an error with the teaching of Galileo Galilei, how many years will it take for it to admit an error was made on their rhetoric on homosexuality?

  13. Robert, ex-pat Brit 2 Dec 2008, 6:03pm

Martin, it also proves that aside from the same-sex marriage excuse, by opposing decriminalisation it is approving of discrimination and violence towards us. How evil does it get? Not one major cult reacted to the execution of young gay men in Iran and elsewhere. Doesn’t that tell us something about these socalled “christians”?

  14. MILITANT QUEER PETE 2 Dec 2008, 10:08pm

Simon Murphy, you said all that i was going to say, but i would add, THAT THE CATHOLICS/CHRISTIANS PUT INTO PLACE A ” REAL NAZI SOLIDER” AS THEIR POPE! HOW LOST DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO PUT SUCH A HATEFUL NAZI IN THE MOST (un)TRUSTED POSITION FOR THOSE LOSERS WHO FOLLOW THAT CULT?? AS FOR HATING ALL OF US HOMOSEXUALS, WE AT LEAST HERE IN AMERICA ARE READY FOR A WAR WITH THE SO-CALLED FAITHFUL= HATING BIGOTS! (CIVIL RIGHTS OR CIVIL WAR!!!) WE ARE HAVING IT OUT IN THE STREETS IN ALL U.S. STATES WITH ANYONE WHO DARES SPEAKS OF HATE TOWARDS US, WE MILITANT Q’S ARE FIGHTING BACK WITH COVERT ACTIONS, THEY ASKED FOR IT – THEY WILL GET WHAT IS COMING TO THEM! I HOPE THE GLOBAL WORLD FOLLOWS, IF THEY STAND IN YOUR WAY AT THE UN, ” WE WILL BE THERE” AND PLACES THEY GO (with our fake passes), AS LONG AS THERE IN THE STATES. WE WILL FOLLOW THEM “EVERYWHERE”! **THIS IS A WARNING FROM THE Q.A.L.F.
WE FIGHT ANYONE WHO STANDS IN OUR WAY- READ. NOT DICTATED BY ONE PROUD FAG..
LESBIANS,DYKES,GAYS,FAGS,QUEERS,TRANS:G’S,DRAG QUEENS,M:QUEERS, UNITE! UNITE! UNITE! GLOBALLY AND “FIGHT BACK WHEN NECESSARY & BASH BACK IF THEY TRY TO BASH YOU” ALWAYS CARRY A WHISTLE AND A SMALL POCKET KNIFE TO SCARE OFF ATTACKERS OR/AND A SMALL BUT VERY BRIGHT L.E.D. LIGHT TO BLIND STUPID BIGOTED HOMOPHOBES WHO TRY AND HURT YOU GIVING TIME TO CALL OUT FOR HELP OR BASH THE BIGOTS HEADS IN/ WE WILL NOT BE IN PEACE, WE SHALL NEVER BE IN PEACE, WE WANT OUR FREEDOM JUST LIKE ALL THE HUMAN BEINGS WANT GLOBALLY. THEIR IS ‘NO’ ONE GROUP OF HUMANS THAT OVER RULE “ANYONE”. BUT, IF THEY TRY- THIS QUEER AS WELL AS MANY FROM AROUND THE GLOBAL ARE READY TO FIGHT,BASH,RIOT, WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET OUR RIGHTS BACK! DID ANYONE KNOW THE NAZI VATICAN GIVE 10 MILLION TO THE MORMONS (in a out of country bank in utah?), TO FIGHT THE PROP:8, P:122, AMN:2, IN AMERICA? THE VATICAN IS TREADING ON QUICKSAND, IF THE “WHOLE TRUTH COMES OUT” ON HOW THEIR TRYING TO CHANGE THE UNITED STATED OF AMERICA’S CONSTITUTION ???
THERE HELL WILL BE ON EARTH, LET’S MAKE THIS THERE HELL ON EARTH… ANYWAY!!! RESEARCH THIS- IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME, I DIDN’T TIL I RESEARCHED IT MYSELF. GOOD LUCK TO ALL LGQBT FOLKS AROUND THE WORLD, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN COUNTRIES WHO KILL PEOPLE FOR BEING HOMOSEXUALS- WE ARE WATCHING AND KEEPING RECORDS. HOPEFULLY WITH OUR NEW PREZ IN THE STATES- WE COULD RESCUE SOME PEOPLE FROM COUNTRIES THAT WILL KILL ONE OF US/HOMOSEXUALS FOR BEING “ONE OF MILLIONS” OF THE “BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE” IN THE WORLD. FIGHT,FIGHT,FIGHT BACK!!!
NEVER STOP, NEVER LOOK BACK, KEEP MOVING FORWARD FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS OF QUEERS (REMEMBER THE PAST, JUST DON’T LIVE IN IT). REGARDING HIV/AIDS, WHAT THEY DID TO US WITH THE HEP B VACCINE WHICH HAD THE HIV IN IT- AND WAS ONLY GIVEN TO HOMOSEXUALS IN THE LATE SEVENTIES, FRIENDS STARTED DYING SIX MONTHS LATER. WE ALL KNOW THAT IN THE STATES THAT THE GOVERNMENT, ONE U.S. SCIENTIST IN AFRICA/UGANDA, WHO MADE UP THE KILLER VACCINE, IT WAS GIVEN TO THOSE IN UGANDA’S VILLAGES FIRST (if you refused to take it- they shot you)) PLUS: THAT WAS THE SAME “hep:B” VACCINE THEY GAVE TO “ONLY HOMOSEXUAL MEN IN THE LATE SEVENTIES IN THE UNITED STATES” WHY NO OTHERS? CAN’T FIND AN ANSWER FOR THAT ONE, NOR DOES ANY U.S. GOVERNMENT AGENCY HAVE ONE FOR US. I JUST KNOW WE WERE COMING INTO POWER AND THIS WAS AN EASY WAY TO FIX THAT FOR THE BIGOTS. (AS REAGAN SAID; “IF THEY WANT TO LIVE IN SIN, LET THEM DIE IN SIN”). WELL NOW IT’S OUR TURN TO MAKE THIS YOUR BIGOTED HELL, AS QUEERS UNITE AROUND THE WORLD, NEVER WILL WE STOP FIGHTING BACK!
AROUND THE WORLD UNITE, UNITE, UNITE “ENOUGH OF ALL THE BREEDER/BIBLE BULLSHIT!!”. QP^

  15. Robert, interesting that you say that because paragraph 2358 of the Catholic Catechism – the official codified book of Church teachings – states

“The number of men & women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition…They must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of UNJUST DISCRIMINATION in their regard should be avoided…”

This was written by the present Pope when he was a Cardinal.

The Pope and his minions saying one thing, but the teaching, he helped, to write say another.

Only highlights the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church!

  16. john wilfred sharp 3 Dec 2008, 2:19am

the Vatican should be abolished it is a ghost state
based on religious dogma and lies .
all the leaders of religions should be brought to justice for spreading lies and deceit .
hardly a base to give lessons of morals to anyone

  17. I just want to scream! Having read about the US President Elect and his wise choice of atterony General and Secretary of State (who are LGBT supporters!) we get this medieval dark age pontifications from the Arch Homophobe of Rome and his henchmen! (Why not go the whole way? Just put them all in Jackboots while you’r at it and storm the UN and any other organisation that has the audasity to outrage the Holy See with modern, humanitarian. civilised views)! The present Pope seems set on a homophobic crusade!

The roman cult is an ultraright political organization masquerading as a superstitious cult. It’s always had deep interconnections with rightist movements and states from conservatives to fascists. The same can be said of the cousins the other christist cults and of islamist clerics. They are all a danger to civil society and particularly to us. Part of their ‘mission’ is to portray the GLBT communities as ‘sinful’, child molesters, and persons not fit to be treated as citizens. In many cases we can stand up for ourselves and fight back against them and have even won some small concessions in a few countries.

    Others are not so fortunate.

They’ve raped a massive number of children and conspire to hide it and continue todo so. Their leaders should be hauled before the World Court for aiding and abetting the rape and abuse of children around the world. Their wealth should be confiscated without compensation to repay their victims.

They actively promote the spread of AIDS/HIV. They can be found everywhere attacking the use of condoms and needle exchanges and calling for abstinence. And they do worse.

For instance a little over a year ago roman cult archbishop Francisco Chimoio said that European produced condoms used to prevent HIV/AIDS had been deliberately infected with HIV. He claimed that condom companies “want to finish with the African people” and “want to colonize” the continent. He refused (because he a lying sack of s**t) to name the companies involved and repeated that the best way to fight the spread of AIDS is by fidelity or abstinence. As a result of Chimono’s approach one in six citizens of Mozambique is HIV-positive. Those approximately 3.3 million people have little or no access to the available therapies and most will simply die. I’ve watched dozens of my friends and a few lovers die from the effects of that virus and it’s awful.

Chimono, Ratzinger der Pope, and anglicans like archbishop Akinola are murderers and should be hauled before the world court on charges of genocide and mass murder. Their wealth should be confiscated without compensation to supply preventive and treatment programs about HIV/AIDS.
