A new campaign that showcases the reality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans families has been launched in the US.

Declare Your Family Equal aims to “lift the voices of thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) parents who simply want to provide their families with the same fundamental protections that heterosexual parents enjoy through access to civil marriage and adoption.”

In just one week a campaign YouTube video (see below) has been viewed more than 10,000 times.

There is a new Talking to Your Children About Election ’08 PDF resources for LGBT parents and information on starting a parents’ group.

The campaign was initiated by the Family Equality Council, group that works to ensure equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender families by building community, changing hearts and minds, and advancing social justice.

There has been “outrage and disappointment” at the passage of laws banning gay marriage in California, Florida and Arizona and an anti-gay ban on single people adopting in Arkansas.

The council said that the Declare Your Family Equal campaign “is a vibrant part of the digitised, Stonewall 2.0 response to anti-gay discrimination.”
